ROAR's 1998 Off Road Nationals turned out to be one of the biggest Nationals ever held. And the most exciting, with 450 entries from all over the country competing for the chance to be a National Champion. HobbyTown set up a large circus-type tent outside to handle all the racers.

The competition was tough on the indoor HobbyTown R/C track. Qualifying was close, but when it was finished, it showed Mark Pavidis as being Top Qualifier in the tough 2WD Modified Class, and Scott Hughes taking the 2nd spot. Scott then took TQ honors in the popular Truck Mod. Class with Mark Pavidis placing 2nd.

The spectators got their money's worth in the Mains, and when the dust had cleared, Mark Pavidis won the 2WD Modified National Champion title with his Associated RC10B3, while Scott Hughes joined the effort, winning the National Champion title in the Truck Modified class with his RC10T3.

Both drivers used the powerful Reedy motors and batteries, world-famous LRP speed controls, and super-traction Pro-Line tires.
