Team Associated/JConcepts Takes Top 3 In All Modified Classes

For the twentieth year in a row, R/C racers have congregated to sunny Arizona to compete in arguably the largest offroad race of the year. This year was no different as the race celebrated two decades of existence. Drivers from as far as England, Australia, and Austria were in attendance, highlighted by newly crowned Team Associated/Reedy World Champion Neil Cragg.

As usual, the SRS track combined a host of obstacles that challenged all racers alike. With everything from a rhythm section, to whoops, to a 120' straight, the track had it all. The talk in the pits was that this was the most challenging and exciting track layout ever seen at SRS for the Cactus Classic.

As the racing began on Friday, Team Associated drivers Ryan Cavalieri, Jared Tebo, and Ryan Maifield proved they were out for the win taking every TQ position for 2WD Mod, Truck Mod and 4WD Mod among themselves. As Saturday concluded the results were the same with these three drivers monopolizing the TQ positions in both rounds 3 and 4.

As the points were totaled for the main events, Team Associated and JConcepts occupied half of the field, and the top three positions in all the modified A mains. This accomplishment was highlighted by the TQ positions of Cavalieri in 2WD and Truck and Tebo in 4WD. Additionally, privateer Mike Friery took the TQ position for the 19 Turn Truck class with his T4.

Unfortunately, as the racers awoke on Sunday morning, the rain that had threatened the event for the past few days had finally arrived. About half an hour prior to the start of the first A mains a rain shower rolled in over the SRS track and soaked the track for a good 30 minutes. Not wanting to cancel the event, the SRS management consulted the weather forecast to see if any relief was in sight, but unfortunately it didn't appear as such. At approximately 10am the race director came over the loud speaker and announced that the mains were canceled and that final finishing order would be determined by qualifying position.

A big thanks goes out to the entire Scottsdale R/C Speedway crew for putting on a great event and congratulations to all those who made the main events.
