Numendahl and Brown Win 2012 Rumble
Denver’s MHOR R/C Raceway hosted the Rumble in the Rockies the weekend of February 18th and 19th. Nearly 200 entries meant that the competition would be intense which made for excellent racing in all classes. A very high speed layout, combined with a small track size, resulted in lap times in the 11-12 second range.
In the 2WD Modified Buggy class, Kody Numendahl and Michael Schoettler qualified second and third overall respectively. Kody took A-1 and Michael took A-2, which meant that A-3 would determine the winner. Kody bobbled on the first lap but made his way back up to second only 1.2 seconds behind the leader. A three-way tie in points went in Kody's favor, giving him and his Reedy Sonic 540 8.5 powered B44.1 the overall win.
Numendahl was the Top Qualifier in the Modified 4wd Buggy class with his Reedy Sonic 540 6.5 powered B44.1, followed by Tacoma Boys Michael Schoettler and Luke Smith. Kody experienced mechanical issues in A-1, which dropped him out of the race, leaving Michael to cruise to an early win. In A-2, an early bobble from Michael allowed Kody to even the score and take the easy win. A-3 would decide the overall winner and proved to be a close race. Kody made a mistake early, letting Michael slip into the lead. A mistake while attempting a pass for the lead allowed Michael to cruise to the leg and overall win.
Adrian Redding grabbed the pole position for the 4wd Modified Short Course class with Scott Brown’s Reedy Sonic 540 5.5 powered SC10 4x4 second on the grid. A-1 went just like qualifying with Adrian taking the win followed very closely by Scott. In A-2 both drivers had small bobbles, causing them to finish second and third. The results of A-3 would determine the overall winner. A battle from start to finish ensued with the two driver swapping positions multiple times. A last corner pass by Scott gave him the win in A-3 and the overall win. Great race!
Thanks to MHOR R/C Raceway for another fine event and to all the organizers and participants who make this event possible.
